Sustainable business

Contributing to a better world by focusing on the environment, people and society is as important to us as it is to you. Wherever it is within our capabilities, we rub our business sustainably.

De Tulperij farm is a wheelchair friendly company. We believe it to be important that everyone can enjoy our show garden full of tulips and dahlias, even if mobility is limited. Thanks to the Handy-Care foundation, we have two wheelchairs ready for use during your visit to our farm.
The chair have been specially designed so that people with walking difficulties can participate in social activities.

Biodiversity

We sometimes say there is no life without biodiversity. It is extremely important for the agricultural sector and bees provide an important contribution. You will find two bee colonies in our farm, which also provide the delicious honey that you can buy in our shop.

Every year we sow a strip of summer seed along the road at our farm, a true candy store for bees and butterflies and of course beautiful to look at. We have planted a beech hedge on the side of the road at our farm for the partridges, the so-called bulb birds, so they have a shelter when they see disaster coming.

Energy saving

“Fluorescent lamps out and LED lighting in”, saves energy. In 2021 we had Solar Complete instal 144 solar panels on the roof of our farm. We hope to generate a considerably amount of energy for our own use, and we will give back what is left so that the environment benefits.

Green manure

Our business has been actively using green manure for several years. Green manure is the cultivation of plants on a piece of land, which is then ploughed or mulched. This means that after harvesting, we sow the land with, for example, Japanese oats, Tagetes or Phacelia. During growth, these crops protect the soil against erosion, silting up and/or spraying.

Sharing is caring

We contribute to the environment by borrowing, sharing and leasing. As we do not need our machines for the bulb cultivation all year round and it is a shame to leave them unused, we share these with fellow entrepreneurs.

Socially involved

Ever since De Tulperij was founded, we have been working together with a day activity center for people with a distance from the labor market. They bake our apple pies and cheesecake with immense pleasure and enthusiasm.

Of course we separate our waste and when you order a cup of coffee or tea – or something else delicious – from our catering facility, you therefore also contribute to the other pillar within our farm: people.

We work with fair trade products, so that everyone gets a fair price for their product. “Together for a better world” feels good and tastes even better!
